PERSONAL
BITS FAQ

Q: How did you get the name "Billie"?
A: My older brother, George Raymund Rogers, was named after
my father, George Raymond Rogers, and my paternal grandfather, George Henry Rogers. My
maternal grandfather, William Ross Davis got miffed about the naming. My mother, Edna Davis
Rogers, told "Papa" that she would name her second son after him. She did not
have a second son. She had a daughter. She named me Kathleen (because she
always liked that name) Alys (after my father's sister) Rogers, and then nicknamed me Billie, after her father.
Q: So, you're from Texas?
A: No, I'm not. I received my college degree from
Texas A & I University in Kingsville, TX. I was born November 29, 1953 in New Jersey,
as that was where my parents were living at the time. That made it most convenient for
Mother. She was a Preston County native and when Daddy retired in 1970, after 38
years with Greyhound Lines, we moved to "Over Cheat" WV. I graduated from Morgantown High School in 1971, started college at
WVU, met my future husband, John Kimble Lovett, an Arthurdale resident, and married him
May 19, 1973. SO, now that you know my birth date and anniversary date,
I will, of course, expect presents, or at the very least, cards.
Q: How come it took you ten years to get
your bachelor's degree?
A: I started college at WVU in June
1971, right after graduating from High School. By 1975, I had accumulated
enough credit hours to be classified a senior. I was majoring in Mathematics
with a minor in Education at the time. I was planning on teaching high school math. In November 1975, Kimble enlisted in the US Navy.
We spent the next 8 1/2 years traveling around this beautiful country, from one Navy base
to another. We spent time in Millington, TN, near Memphis; Oak Harbor, WA, on Whidbey
Island in Puget Sound; Kingsville, TX, home to Texas A & I University; and Newport
News, VA, near colonial Williamsburg. While in Kingsville (1979-1982), I
changed my major to Accounting, transferred my credits from WVU to Texas A & I, and by December 1981,
had completed the remaining required courses for a BBA (Bachelor in Business
Administration) degree with a major in Accounting. After almost nine years of our touring the US, and his touring of
Europe, North Africa, and the Mediterranean Sea, all at the expense and whim
of our government, he left the Navy in 1984 and we
came back home to beautiful Preston County. I passed the CPA Exam in 1986
and opened an office in Reedsville in 1990.
Q: Do you have any children?
A: No.
Q: Do you have any pets?

Q. What
do you do when you are not at work?
A. When I am not at my
office working, or working office stuff at home
(when would that be?),
(1) In addition to my CPA practice, I also run another business, Web
Wizardry by JKL (WWJKL). WWJKL is a web site design and maintenance
company that also provides some digital photographic services. We make
customized note cards, tote bags, jigsaw
puzzles, rack cards, brochures, and Microsoft Powerpoint presentations.
(2) I enjoy crocheting, counted cross stitch, jigsaw puzzles of nature
and animals, and am an avid reader. I especially
enjoy historical fiction and mysteries. I have a wish list on Amazon.com, if you
desire to buy me one or two. You may find my wish list at Amazon.com by
clicking on Wish Lists and then searching on my name: Billie Lovett.
(3) I am very lucky to have a low maintenance husband, however, we have a high maintenance yard, home, and pets, so we mow,
prune, clean, sweep, fix-up, feed, brush, and treat. We keep the local
birds, squirrels, and occasional possum in sunflower seed, thistle, bird
seed, and suet feed as well. Kimble's mother, Ruth Lovett, (yes, the
retired English and West Virginia Studies Valley Junior High School
teacher) lives next door
and she occasionally needs some assistance in caring for her home, yard,
and pets, so we graciously do that too.
(4) I work on genealogy research of my family as well as Kimble's,
via the Internet and in person. I have met some wonderful cousins online.
(5) We have an overactive computer jones, so we spend a lot of time
surfing the Internet, upgrading our machines, and helping friends and
family upgrade or run theirs. We are in the process of converting our
photo albums to digital pictures for archiving and sharing.
(6) We enjoyed taking social ballroom dancing lessons from Al & Kitty
Gouldin while they lived here. We took lessons
from Al & Kitty from 2000 until 2006 and we have taught dance classes at Arthurdale Heritage.
(7) I have served on the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Public
Accountant's Association since 1998 and am presently a Past President of
the Association. I also maintain their website.
(8) We also tackle
many of our own construction projects. We have recently wallpapered most
of the rooms, have installed baseboard and crown moldings, and we have new
interior doors yet to install.
(9) and occasionally, I do get some sleep. (10)
My niece, Sarah Alison Rogers Miller, recently started a food
blog. She is quite an accomplished cook and an excellent writer. She
just defended her Doctoral thesis in Comparative Literature at UNC Chapel
Hill. Both she and her husband Patrick have teaching positions at Dusquene
University in Pittsburgh.
