The penalties for both
failure to file
and failure to pay
are more severe than the
penalty for failure to pay only,
SO...,
EVEN if you can't pay,
FILE the return anyway. |

What's
needed to prepare your tax return
Personal Tax returns
are due
April 15.
Extended Personal Tax Returns are due October 15.
If you file a Federal
Extension Form 4868, it provides an automatic 6 month extension of the
time to file, pushing
the due date until 10-15
WV Schedule L (WV Extension) also extends the due date until 10-15.
The WV Schedule L will only be needed if you needed to pay with your request
for additional time. If you owe on your extended filing, you will be
charged a late filing and late payment penalty if you did not file a
Schedule L.
Extensions
only extend the time to file the return, not the time to PAY.
If you file an extension, and you end up owing on the completed return,
you will be charged interest and penalties on the balance due from the
due date of the original return until the date of full
payment.
If you do not file an extension and you file your return late, and you
owe, you will be charged a penalty for late filing and a penalty for
paying late plus interest from the original due date of the return.
